We’re delighted to say that after many months of thinking, sharing and refining ideas through the Cambridge Dialogues Project, IELC is now live.
IELC is a space for Islamic educators to engage with ideas and reflect on their own practice. We use the word ‘educator’ as opposed to ‘teacher’, as we know many people who support learning don’t consider themselves formally as teachers: IELC is for anyone who considers themselves an educator, including home-schooling parents.
We are a community of educators who wish to engage with our rich scholarly heritage as an ummah (community) of ‘ilm (knowledge) and learning. We understand the traditional exhortation to seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave as an ethos of lifelong learning as Muslims and as educators. This learning must be imbued with tadabbur (reflection) and thus this community is one where we share reflective practice through sharing reports of our cycles of inquiry in our classrooms and educational settings.
IELC is part of Camtree, which offers a community and a platform through which to do this.
- If you want to ask questions of your practice, or of teaching and learning in general – Camtree is for you.
- If you want to try and answer questions about your practice: your own questions, your students’ questions, or those floating around in your contexts and disciplines – Camtree is for you.
- If you want to be part of ongoing dialogue about teaching and learning practices, in different contexts, addressing different challenges and for different reasons – Camtree is for you.
IELC is a community within Camtree dedicated to education from an Islamic worldview.
Like Camtree, we will share resources, underpinned by research at the University of Cambridge’s Faculty of Education and more widely through our partners, to support educators in conducting research into their own practice. We will also support and encourage you to publish your research in the Camtree Digital Library, so that more practitioners can learn about what you did, why, and what you found. In summary, IELC is part of Camtree, a global online platform that supports educators to reflect on, develop, and share their practice, through involvement in research in their own educational settings. Why not get involved? As a first step, you can register with Camtree and subscribe as an IELC member, and we’ll keep you up to date with news of developments.
